Xisto Limitado Branco '24

Xisto — Portuguese for "schist" — tells you everything about where this wine comes from. Luis Seabra's Limitado Branco is grown on the steep, terraced schist slopes of the Douro Valley, where thin, rocky soils force vines deep in search of water and minerals, producing grapes of extraordinary concentration and complexity.

Luis Seabra is one of the Douro's most thoughtful winemakers — a former winemaker at Niepoort who now crafts wines of quiet precision under his own label. The Limitado series represents his most site-expressive work: small-production, minimal-intervention whites that reflect the ancient geology of the valley rather than the winemaker's hand.

In the glass, it's a luminous gold with green highlights. The nose is stony and aromatic — white peach, citrus blossom, fennel, and a cool mineral thread that runs through everything. On the palate it's taut and textured, with a saline, slate-driven finish of impressive length.
