we believe good cheese goes with good wine with other good stuff.

We love snacks — collections of sweet, sour, savoury, crispy, crunchy, chewy, unctuous things. We like putting weird things together and experimenting with flavours — that’s the fun of cheese plates; every bite is different! We think that food should be fun. It should nourish us — yes, but more importantly (or maybe just slightly less importantly) it should provide joy. It’s an excuse to get together, to cook, to chat, to share.

At Good Cheese we try to help foster this ethos by being a shop for our community, not just to stock up on delicious things — but to find new ones, talk about them, and to learn more.

OUR APPROACH

We are a small neighbourhood Cheese, Wine & Fine Foods shop located in East Chinatown in Toronto, Canada. We carry a tightly curated selection of cheese, cured meats, beer, canned tomatoes, tinned seafood, olives, wine, pickled things, fresh pasta--essentially, what we like to describe as #AllTheBestStuff.

Rather than carry everything, we focus on curation. We bring in foods we like and believe in and take a lot of pride in introducing our customers to new and wonderful flavours. We think quality is better than quantity and taste is paramount.

We're open 7 days a week from 11AM to 7PM for your in store shopping needs and deliver 5 days a week to the entire GTA through our website.

From the start our goal has been to create an approachable environment where people from any cultural background, gender, or sexual orientation — both seasoned food professionals and young enthusiasts — can find new and interesting things without pretension or judgement.

See something unfamiliar? Ask questions! Our staff is happy to help you navigate our wine selection, or help you find the perfect thing to bring to your dinner party. We make platters, gift baskets and host private tastings. We love good food and we love sharing it with you.

WHAT'S GOOD? EVERYTHING.

Our approach is an inclusive one. So much of the food world revolves around gatekeeping. But the best, most rewarding experiences are the weird surprises that speak to you personally. The best things are different for everyone: an oily cockle from the Spanish coast might excite one person while perhaps an all natural, locally made hotdog will do the trick for another (flavour pairing idea: combine them!).

To us there is no high brow/low brow divide, it’s all good stuff and all the fun is in the discovery. We bring in new things every week and we are always looking for new ideas or suggestions. All we ask for is a good attitude and an open mind.

BE GOOD

We believe that we all share a responsibility to contribute to our community and the world at large in a positive way. We work as a business to give our staff a safe and rewarding work environment, pay them fairly, and give them opportunities to advance in their careers. We also recognize how lucky we are to do what we do and want to do what we can to help extend that luck outwards. That’s why we pledge to donate 0.5% of ALL revenue to causes we believe in. We are currently supporting the following organizations —
ARCTIC EIDER SOCIETY
The Arctic Eider Society is an Indigenous run organization based in Sanikiluaq, Nunavut fighting for environmental and social justice issues in Canada’s North.

RAINBOW RAILROAD
Rainbow Railroad is a global not-for-profit organization that helps LGBTQI+ people facing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics.

DISTRESS CENTRES OF GREATER TORONTO
DCGT provides 24-hour emotional support and suicide prevention services 365 days a year.

MALARIA CONSORTIUM
This charity is the answer to the question: where can I give to maximize my impact? Malaria Consortium focuses on the control, management and, where appropriate, the eventual elimination of a range of diseases - malaria, pneumonia, diarrhoea, dengue and neglected tropical diseases on the African Continent.
