Raisins Gaulois '25
Gamay | Beaujolais, France
- Notes
Marcel Lapierre was one of the most important figures in the history of natural wine — a Morgon vigneron who, in the 1980s, began working with the legendary Jules Chauvet to eliminate sulphur and chemical intervention from his wines at a time when the idea was considered radical, even reckless. What he proved, over decades of meticulous work, was that wine made from healthy grapes and nothing else could be more alive, more expressive, and more honest than anything the conventional wine industry was producing. His estate in Villié-Morgon remains one of the benchmarks of Beaujolais, now run by his children Mathieu and Camille with the same rigour and the same philosophy.
Raisins Gaulois — "Gallic Grapes" — is the Lapierre family's entry-level Gamay, a Vin de France made from younger vines and bottled early to preserve its freshness and fruit. It's the wine that introduced a generation of drinkers to what natural Beaujolais can be: bright, juicy, and irresistibly drinkable, with the crunchy red fruit, floral lift, and silky texture that Gamay produces at its most joyful.
