Benedic Rosso '24
Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo | Lazio, Italy
- Notes
Benedic — Latin for “bless” — is the red wine of the Monastero Suore Cistercensi, the Cistercian nuns of Vitorchiano in Lazio who have become one of Italy’s most quietly celebrated natural wine producers. Guided by the philosophy of minimal intervention and deep respect for the land, the sisters bring the same meditative care to their red as they do to their celebrated amber whites.
Grown on the volcanic and clay-rich soils surrounding the monastery, Benedic Rosso is a wine of place and purpose. Deep ruby with a garnet edge, it opens with a warm and inviting nose: ripe dark cherry, dried plum, dried herbs, a hint of leather, and the earthy, mineral depth that defines wines from this ancient volcanic landscape north of Rome. On the palate, it is medium-to-full-bodied — generous dark fruit, firm but integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long, savoury finish with notes of spice and earth. A wine that rewards contemplation.
