Atlas Aligoté '23
Aligote | Savoie, France
- Notes
Domaine Les Aricoques is the project of Romain and Guillaume — a natural producer working in Savoie with a deep belief in the potential of alpine terroir and indigenous varieties. Atlas is something a little different: a collaboration with their friends at Château de Rougeon in Burgundy, who supply the Aligôté fruit, which is then brought to Savoie and vinified entirely by Les Aricoques. The result is a wine that sits at the intersection of two great French wine regions, made with the care and low-intervention philosophy that defines everything the domaine does.
Aligôté is Burgundy's other white grape — long overshadowed by Chardonnay, now experiencing a well-deserved renaissance among natural wine producers who recognise its capacity for freshness, mineral energy, and genuine complexity when farmed and vinified with care. This cuvée spends six months in cement, allowing the wine to settle and develop without imparting flavour, then a further six months in 400-litre Champagne barrels that add subtle texture and depth without overwhelming the variety's natural character. The combination produces a wine of real precision and interest: bright, mineral, and alive, with layered complexity.
