Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir '25
Pinot Noir | Adelaide Hills, South Australia
- Notes
Gentle Folk is one of the most quietly celebrated natural wine producers in Australia — a small project run by Gareth Belton in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, a cool-climate region whose elevation and maritime influence produce wines of genuine finesse and restraint. Gareth farms organically and biodynamically, works with minimal intervention in the cellar, and has built a devoted following for wines that feel more Burgundian than Australian in their precision and sense of place.
Pinot Noir is where Gareth's instincts are most clearly on display. The Adelaide Hills is one of the few places in Australia where Pinot Noir genuinely thrives — cool enough to preserve the variety's natural delicacy and aromatic complexity, warm enough to ripen it fully — and in Gareth's hands, farmed biodynamically and vinified with minimal intervention, it produces something of real beauty. Expect red cherry, raspberry, a little dried rose petal and forest floor earthiness, fine silky tannins, and the bright, precise acidity that defines great Pinot Noir wherever it is grown. This is not a big, extracted, sun-drenched Australian red — it is a wine of elegance, restraint, and genuine Burgundian character.
