Demain C'est Loin '24
Shavkapito | Lamiskana, Georgia
- Notes
"Demain c'est loin" — Tomorrow is Far Away — is a French phrase on a Georgian wine, and that small detail tells you something about Ori Marani: a producer with one foot in the ancient winemaking traditions of the Caucasus and another in the contemporary natural wine world that has fallen in love with Georgia's extraordinary viticultural heritage. Ori Marani works in Lamiskana, in the Racha-Lechkhumi region of western Georgia, farming indigenous varieties that have been grown here for millennia.
Shavkapito is one of Georgia's rarest and most compelling red varieties — nearly extinct a generation ago, now being revived by a small number of committed producers who recognise its potential. It produces wines of medium body, bright acidity, and a distinctive character: dark cherry and pomegranate fruit, earthy, spiced notes, and a freshness that makes it unusually versatile at the table.
