Chateau Sainte-Marie Pomerol '19
Merlot, Cabernet Franc | Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
- Notes
Pomerol is one of the smallest and most coveted appellations in Bordeaux — a plateau of clay and gravel on the Right Bank of the Dordogne where Merlot reaches its most opulent, complex expression. The appellation has no official classification, no grand cru hierarchy, just a handful of estates producing some of the most sought-after wines in the world from a grape that thrives in the iron-rich, water-retaining clay soils that define the plateau.
Château Sainte-Marie's 2019 Pomerol arrives from one of Bordeaux's finest recent vintages — a warm, dry year that produced wines of exceptional concentration, ripeness, and structure, with the natural acidity to age gracefully for decades. Expect the hallmarks of great Pomerol: plush, velvety texture, dark plum and black cherry fruit, notes of truffle, mocha, and iron-tinged earth, and a long, seamless finish. The tannins are ripe and polished, the balance impeccable. Drink now with a generous decant, or cellar for another 10–15 years and watch it become something extraordinary. Pair with roast beef, duck confit, lamb, or aged hard cheese.
