Champagne Wine Regions
- Notes
The French region of Champagne has a history of vine-growing that dates back to the dawn of Christianity, and its vineyard boundaries have been defined by France's appellation system (Appellation d'origins Contrôlée or AOC) since 1927. It is one of the northernmost grape wine-growing regions on the planet. Its latitude, distinctive soil composition (limestone, clay, marl, and chalk), and hillside vineyards make the champagne terroir one-of-a-kind. The Champagne AOC shares its borders with the Coteaux Champenois AOC (local still wine) and includes the Rose des Riceys AOC in the South.
