Kizil Üzüm '19
Kizil Üzüm | Turkey
- Notes
In Güzelyurt, a town in Turkey, comes this innovative and peculiar orange wine made from the grape Kizil Üzüm. There are only about 150 bottles produced annually which mostly are drank in Japan, this is about as rare as natural wine gets.
Udo Hirsch is using wild ferments, amphora and full blown natural winemaking to produce this unique wine with notes of honey, cedar, hot toddy, retsina and spiced orange tea. The vines are all phylloxera free and grown on volcanic soils. The body is rich and tannic and is a dream to an adventurous palate. We have this on deck for the next time we open tough to pair powerful cheeses such as Epoisses or Reblochon.
