Marsanne, Roussanne | Burgundy, France
- Notes
Chris Santini is one of the first winemakers we loved who are part of “New Burgundy”- producers who are using these iconic sites to craft low-intervention wines in a natural wine. He has a storied history which includes working for Kermit Lynch, having Sylvain Pataille as a professor, being classmates with Amaury Beaufort and leasing a cellar space from Tomoko at Chantereves… a dream lineup of French connections.
This orange wine is made from Marsanne and Rousanne and he has honed in a unique style of making skin-contact wines. He makes a portion of the grapes into a still white wine and then blends in orange wine and skins to make a more balanced and delicate style- which still manages to showcase the beautiful terroirs he works with.
The wine has an electric acid-driven backbone, apricot, sage and floral notes. One of our favourite wine writers, Aaron Ayscough wrote a really interesting profile if you want to dive into Santini’s wines: https://notdrinkingpoison.substack.com/p/the-saga-of-santini
