Abu Coffee GN 3245
- Notes
Abu coffee is named after a tender nickname for Jose Tedman, a third generation farmer in Panama; “Abu” is short for “Abuelo” and is the name that his grandkids call him. His farm is named Hacienda Cañas Verdes and is located in the mountainous town of Boquete in Panama, which is about 60km from the border with Costa Rica. The coffee is grown on the volcanic slopes of Volcán Barú; the misty mornings, mountain sun, 1550 meters above sea level and volcanic slopes must be ringing bells to any wine fans - this is a special terroir. This comes from the specific single lot named “GN-3245” and is a unique expression of a micro-section of this beautiful farm. The coffee is award-winning, not only just winning Best of Panama competitions, but is consistently featured at the World Brewers Cup. The coffee is a Gesha and it is naturally processed.
Rising coffee is something truly unique in the coffee world; it is helmed by Jesse Rosenthal. Jesse has been learning the ins and outs of the coffee world for years, doing pop ups and learning for the greats. What makes Jesse so unique is that he is an industry veteran and only 17 years old. He is a child prodigy in coffee, a thing I am surprised to learn exists! He roasts in a very transparent manner, balanced, letting the coffee shine. For the hardcore coffee nerds… he roasts on a Diedrich IR-5 in Manhattan.
